What do you looking for in a web hosting provider?

why do you choose a web hosting company over another?
What do you looking for in a web hosting provider?
The needs of the website dictate where hosting is done.

As previously mentioned, any server-side programming needs to be handled on the server. Whether .NET, PYTHON or PHP. Every developer has their own preference of language.

SSL options for credit card transactions (if applciable to the website)

Ability to have a dedicated server.

The biggest factors for webhosting are the

1) uptime - if the site is not targetted globally, I look for a regional host so that the servers don't get upgraded during the peak hours of when the site would be used most often.

2) database access

3) disk space -%26gt; most websites don't take up a lot of disk space, but the database can.

4) customer service. If a site is not working, I want to be able to call someone and get the issue resolved.
What do you looking for in a web hosting provider?
1. the amount of traffic it can handle compared with the price they ask.

2. the uptime

3. support

4. extra options: like installers for wordpress, joomla, php, mysql options, ...

5. good ftp access

The one that does the best for the least amount of money I would pick.
Reply:If u r lookin' to start just a simple web-site with only gif anime and mouse-over fx, yahoo! web-hosting is best for u....
Reply:Various reasons:

* Personal experience

* Friendly people (or friends)

* Best buy guides

* Hear-say-they-are-good

* Must (business decisions)

* Cheap

* Best physical location

* ....

Too many reasons I think
Reply:Well, the basics would be server space and bandwidth.

Personally, I am a programmer and I need ASP.Net more than anything else. So I would say it depends on what you need the website for, the programming languages you want to use with it ASP.Net/PHP, etc.. Would be the main thing apart from that everything in nearly the same from every provider.

Check out Godaddy
Reply:guessing that you are looking for personal site web-hosting,

first thing would be the disk space,

then comes the database accounts (size %26amp; number of accounts)

then the programming-languages they support (ruby rails ?!)

data transfer traffic....

ftp account limits....

of late, the more important thing i am searching for is,

would he allow me to change the mx records for my mail server.

it turns out that most of them have hidden costs to do this.

if they allow us to change this setting, we can configure to use gmail servers and provide all benefits of gmail accounts (with accounts in your domain) and the all-nice-gmail user-interface for the web-users.
Reply:How often your website becomes non accessible. I switched all my websites from godaddy to http://aplis.net/ recently.
Reply:There are quite a few good reliable webhosting like yahoo, hostmonster, ixhost, bluehost and ipower etc... They usually offer shopping cart and checkout.

Reply:If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

Visit the site to check details.
