I want to design web sites and host them in my own company.If i buy a resseler program with 2gb,how many sites can i host without any bandwidth problem etc.Do anyone work on something like that?I just finish my studies and i want to create something on my own.Is it very risky or dangerous?

You will have to spend more money than what you intend to get the results that you want.
First if you are using a hsoting company you must get their approval to charge and host other peoples websites on thier server.
second 2 gb is only good for 1 large website or 4 small ones.
and third yes it is ricky, you first have to get the customers which cost money for adverstiment and then you have to be able to handle the work load. Web Design is a very easy business to get in to but many people fail because they do not have the education, skill or programs to keep up with large firms.

Reply:Start off with something on a shared server that someone is hosting for you. That way you can see how successful you can be at doing this.
If you think you'll be able to move to your own server hosted by someone else, just upgrade.

I know this has been asked before, but I've searched many web sites and reviews and I'm still confused. So, I've narrowed it down to Hostmonster, Bluehost, and Lunarpages. I'm a pretty technical guy, but I'm looking for a reliable web host for multiple domains that some will use databases. I'm not so concerned about a "simple" web site creator, as opposed to one that follows the HTML %26amp; CSS standards. I was going to go with 1%26amp;1 after seeing their huge ads in PC Magazine until I read the reviews. Thus, I'm not so concerned about cheap, just a service that is reliable, professional, and popular. In other words, what service would a developer recommend and use?

There are a ton of paid web hosts out there, and my husband and I exhausted ourselves researching them before making a decision to go with HostExcellence for this site and another one we run. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that we were getting tired and we liked HostExcellence's plans for mulitple domains and the fact that they had a site builder with tons of customizable templates (many of them do, but some of the good ones on the review lists don't). My husband doesn't use the site builder for his -- he does his own code. I use the site builder until I'm more proficient on Nvu. We also liked the amount of storage and bandwidth we were given, among other things. I haven't had a complaint yet, and we've been customers since October 2005. They have excellent 24/7 live chat support that helps me all the time with just about any issue you can imagine. Whenever a service has been down (which has only been a few times), it's either back up before I have a chance to ask about it or it's resolved before I get off live chat with them. They have a ton of tools at your service, we have more e-mails available than we'll ever use, and more bandwidth and storage space than we've come close to dipping into. They have ftp storage and a really easy thing called webshell that makes it pretty simple to do ftp stuff. Php boards, databases, etc. are all available. Good luck!

There's a lot more to consider though than just bandwidth and drive space (and reliability, of course). Your needs will vary, depending on what kind of content you'll be putting online. Web Hosting Space: Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites.
Bandwidth: Some web hosts will severely limit the bandwidth you can use before you incur extra charges.
Uptime: There's no point in having a website if people can't see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee?
Number of websites allowed: If you're looking to host more than one website on your account, will your web host charge you more to do this?
Support: If you have any problems you need to be able to contact your web host quickly and easily to get the problem sorted.

Web Hosting Space: Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites.

Uptime: There's no point in having a website if people can't see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee?

Free Web Hosting?
I am looking for a good free web host. I would liek it to have email, subdomains, and unobtrusive ads (for instance, foot banners, textlinks or no ads). I don't want to have to go through forum posting and applying, I would like a good, free web host. I have tried GeoCities (the site builder would not work), Gigahive (they stuffed me around), Bravenet (I've cnacelled my email subscription two times now and I still get email from them) and phpnet.us (used cpanel, which is just plain annoying), Google Pages (nice, but not enoguh formatting things) and Freewebs (insufficent space and too many hoops to jump through).
As you can tell, I am very picky.
I would like to avoid cpanel at all costs, because it is slow and painful. A basic web editor would be nice.
Any help people can give me would be great!

I want to find a host which will load my site on my customers' computers the fastest. I realize there are many factors which can affect the speed but still I think web host companies should at least give me a list of sample e-commerce sites for each of their plans, so I can see how the different plans compare in speed.
Hosts don't even talk about speed, just disk space and bandwidth. Why? I thought loading speed of a site was the most important thing. If it will load slowly, who cares how much space or bandwidth I have?
I cannot determine which thing counts the most: server specs or connection speed? Every host lists server specs but very very few mention connection speed. How do I compare hosts then if I want to know who is fastest?
Is there any website or tool to test or at least get some idea of how fast a host is likely to be? Is it ping time of their home site?
Also, please list the URLs of some fastest hosts and please back your opinion with relevant metrics.

I have a computer that is a few years old and I was planing on getting rid of it, but a friend suggested I turn it into a server to host some web pages. what to you have to do to turn a personal computer into a web host? I already have a 24/7 internet conection for it, so how do I make my web pages avalible for anyone to view on my own computer?

You should also get a static ip through your isp, there's ways around not having one, but most isp's only charge a buck or 2 a month for one.
Now if you have a router and/or a firewall, you'll need to open port 80, and forward traffic to your server box. The GUI for your router's configuration will allow you to do this.

(Not trying to scare you... it's wise to be careful about such things.)
Forums and Chatting: what is your skill level with web applications?
-- HTML/CSS? What's that? You'd be better off using a free forum/chat room and linking to it from your site.
-- Can write HTML/CSS: You might be able to install a forum, such as phpBB, or something similar. Take a look at the site and see if it's your cup of tea: www.phpbb.com. They do have an excellent support forum to help you along if you need it.
-- I know PHP/MySQL, ASP, or other scripting: the answer is less related to what kind of forum software (you already know what you want and how to look for it) and more with the hosting provider, which will determine what you can and cannot do.
Chatting: this is a bandwidth-heavy application for a webserver, even for a small chat room with regular use, and most web hosts charge for breaking a bandwidth limit or outright shut you down when a threshold is reached. The pain in the neck? Outgoing and incoming use counts, so denial of service or bad requests to the webserver tick against your total for the month. Once again, for a cheap solution, I'd lean towards PHP in some form: lots of hosts support it and php.net is a very active site that can give you help in using it or giving your resources in finding an answer to your problems. If you are entry-level for such stuff, I'd recommend a Java-based client that you link to from your system... especially if it's light use. A banner ad is a small price to pay for a chatroom if it's sparingly used compared to your forum, which accomplishes a longer conversation time with far less resources. (Chat is still useful: real-time can't be beat.)
Google Ad-Sense is the service you're looking for on www.google.com for banner ads (or google.co.uk in your case.) Bear in mind, that this would pay upon a click, and the payout does not even happen until the money earned reaches $20 at least. This will probably not subsidize your website operation fund, but it could help.
The co.uk name would work regardless of where your host is: IP addresses are used in DNS to transfer people, not URLs. I could use a co.uk name to transfer someone to my .com site, for example, in America, and co.uk would still be on the address bar. DNS sees it as a request for the Wide Area Network address of 123.45.678.90, thus transfering to the 9.876.54.321 server in the US for example. Domain names do not matter.
Web space would be determinate on what you plan to do with the site and your expected traffic: 100-200 MB would be plentiful for an online meeting place for 10-20 friends. Around 500 for a small website of 45-50 people, 1 GB for 200 to 500, and 5 GB+ for 1,000 or more. (Remember: page hits are NOT recurring visitors!) Beyond that, I'd consider managed hosting instead of a service provider.
Bandwidth is how much traffic you'd be pushing each month: this limit is god with your website, since breaking it or surpassing it would result in either a bigger monthly bill or your site being shut down until the next month (both are bad for a budding website.) I'd consider enough for chatting and forum use to be around 500MB for less than 100 people. My site has 100 users and draws up less than 230MB for only a forum. Chatting (being it uses up consistant bandwidth, instead of intermittent bandwidth like a forum would use) would increase this considerably, but not by more than half.
For hosts, I don't live in the UK, so perhaps some one elses answer may help you with that one!

I found Yahoo is also offering cheap web-hosting service fee they will set up your company email addresses and website but how reliable is Yahoo?? What are the pros and cons of using Yahoo Geocites to host your email address and website?? I'm particularly cautious when it comes to receiving and sending out emails - is there a chance that since Yahoo will host my emails, will they be able to read my incoming and outgoing emails since they will probably keep a record of those in and out emails in their server. I'm a beginner when it comes to this whole internet thing so I don't know if I will be able to handle everything if I sign up with Yahoo considering I am from the HongKong and Yahoo is in the US

The other downside is that your domain is not as privatized as you may want it. You won't get a www.yourname.com site. You'll get a www.geocities.com/yourname site.

I have purchase the web hosting package, order no 111530147 I was ask to get permission from my server to redelegate my domain. There answer was, they can not transfer one of their sub domains to another server. There free website provides a suffix of iownersnet to website owners and it is not possible to separate on from all the others. My problem is that I can not choose another domain name, I have printed 5000 flyer's with the domain name www.wellnessvilla.iowners.net I can't find anywhere a email address that I can send my promlem. I have email twice to the contact us with no reply. I am trying through your questions and hope somebody can assist me or forward this email to the right department. I have reviewed several "top 10", "top 25" %26amp; "best of" sites regarding both of these and find that there is some similarity in favorite sites for the domain name registrat and web hosting site....but i have also found that many prefer to register their domain name with one site and pick up the hosting and design from another?
